Del Valle Lake Fishing Report

Del Valle Lake - Livermore, CA (Alameda County)

A slow day for Bryce Hoglan and Al Hurwitz who aggressively trolled Lake Del Valle on 3/27/25. One good strike on the eastern rock wall below Heron Bay. No fish caught. The strike came on a Mooselook Wobbler spoon trolled 15 feet below the surface. Other lures including a Panther Martin spinner, feathered Joe’s Flies, a feathered Mepps Aglia spoon, Rapala Shad Rap, and a Rapala Husky Jerk were all tried, but to no avail. We applied a variety of scents to the lures. Not sure what turned the trolling bite off. Apparently, those fishing with bait were doing better. The lake is full, and the water clarity is now quite good. The surface water temperature is around 60 degrees.

As usual, the Del Valle Staff were very professional and helpful in getting us on and off the water. Undaunted, we’ll be back again later in the spring to troll again for Smallmouth Bass and Rainbow Trout.

All the best,
Bryce Hoglan, Saratoga
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga

Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz trolled Lake Del Valle on 2/20/25, hoping to snag either winter Smallmouths Bass or Rainbow  Trout. Unfortunately, recent heavy rains, while raising the lake level considerably, produced very heavy water staining in the lower two thirds of the reservoir, making that area essentially impossible for successful trolling. Heron Bay, however, did have clearer albeit stained water, allowing trolling to proceed. We had a number of fish  “hits” on the sonar unit in Heron Bay, but...... Read More
