This week, a pair of largemouth bass are on the nest, signaling the start of spawn season. Many fish are active during this time, with carp jumping and bass guarding their nests. The panfish will begin nesting shortly after the bass are finished. During this time, the male bass will stay close to the nest, watching over the eggs and fry (baby fish). I’m not a fan of catching bass off the nest, as it can risk harming the eggs or fry. While there are plenty of them, it’s still better to leave the male to protect the nest.

The stripers should be in the 20-30 inch range, and anchovies, along with various swim baits, should be producing good results. We’re nearing the end of the trout stocking season, and we hope all the trout anglers had a great season. A big thank you to the Willow Beach Hatchery for providing us with some excellent rainbow trout this year.

As a reminder, carp are one of the only types of fish that can be legally taken by bow and arrow or spear. While we don’t stock bow and arrow gear, I can help you find some if you're into archery.
