Spring is one of the best times to be on Fall River. Flows are steady and clear, and with fewer crowds than in summer, it’s a great time to explore the public sections and test your luck with spooky trout. Midges and blue-winged olives are the primary hatches right now, especially on overcast days. Fish will rise selectively during the warmer parts of the day, so be ready with small dries and light tippet.

When fish aren’t feeding on the surface, small jig-style Euro nymphs, eggs, and midge pupa patterns under an indicator or tight-line rig will do the trick. Streamers can move bigger fish in the deeper pools, particularly early or late in the day.
