It’s still a bit early for Green Drakes on the Metolius, but a few early bugs have already been spotted. While it’s not yet hatch time, a Green Drake dry might coax a curious fish late in the day — but you’ll likely have more consistent success with a Drake nymph.

The Blue-Winged Olive hatch has been the most dependable, with fish taking emergers, duns, and spinners. Caddis are also starting to show — try Tan X Caddis, orange Elk Hair, and small Stimulators. Caddis pupa patterns fished subsurface are also worth working through likely water.

Bull trout are becoming more aggressive as water conditions improve. Big streamers are producing well — now’s a great time to swing something meaty and cover water.

Nymphing remains productive with a full mix of patterns: Golden Stones, Drake nymphs, Perdigons, Eggs, Frenchies, 2-Bits, and Micro Mayflies are all in play. Rotate patterns and adjust depth often.
