The California Aqueduct bite was solid last week, with anglers reporting success all the way from San Luis Reservoir to Bakersfield. Striped bass anglers found plenty of smaller fish eager to bite on cut sardines, anchovies, and jumbo live minnows. Paddle tail swimbaits, Flukes, and jerkbaits in white and baitfish patterns produced strikes during the morning and evening hours. One angler reported steady action throughout the day using Spooks and Alabama rigs. Largemouth bass were caught on drop shot rigs, Ned rigs, and Texas-rigged Roboworms in watermelon black flake, brown, and salt-and-pepper colors. Small swimbaits, poppers, and Flicker Shads also drew bites from hungry largemouth. Catfish anglers had productive outings soaking fresh shrimp, dip bait, and cut baits, especially below check gates.
