with bites found at depths of 100’-110’. This suggests that the fish are active and feeding, making for favorable fishing conditions.

🛠️ Tackle & Techniques

Anglers targeting king salmon on Shasta Lake often employ trolling techniques using dodger/flasher setups paired with squid hoochies or large plug-cut anchovies. Effective trolling speeds range from 1.8 to 2.2 mph. Leader lengths vary depending on the setup; for dodger combos, a 10”-12” leader is recommended, while for flasher setups, a 21”-28” leader is effective. These techniques are known to attract both king salmon and large trout.

🌡️ Water Conditions

King salmon in Shasta Lake typically prefer water temperatures between 48°F and 52°F. Anglers often find them in deeper waters, ranging from 80 to 140 feet, especially near structures like the Shasta Dam and the Dry Creek arm.
