Current Water Conditions

Flows are currently around 338 CFS between Boca and Stampede Reservoirs—on the higher side but very manageable for experienced anglers. The river is running cold and clear, providing great sight-fishing conditions. Careful wading and stealthy approaches are crucial, especially with fish holding tight to deep pools and structure.

Water Temperatures

Consistently around 55°F - ideal for trout activity.

Hatches

Bug life is building. Green Drakes, Blue Winged Olives and Pale Morning Duns are the dominant hatches right now. Midge activity remains strong, and we’re seeing the first signs of more consistent caddis. Dry fly windows have been best from 1 to 4 p.m., especially in slower runs and tailouts.

Effective Tactics

Tightline and indicator nymphing remain top producers—especially early in the day. For dries, use 6X tippet and small BWO or PMD patterns. Nymphing with Two Bit Hookers, RS2s, and Juju Baetis has been productive. Fish are sensitive to presentation, so drift accuracy matters. Small streamers can also be effective during early and late low-light hours.

Catch Report

Catch rates are strong, with both rainbows and browns feeding steadily. Most hookups are coming on nymph rigs, but dry fly anglers are getting solid afternoon action on BWOs and PMDs. Fish are keyed into small bugs, so downsizing flies and tippet can make the difference.
