Fishing in the California Aqueduct was productive last week, with anglers reporting consistent action for all species. Plenty of small striped bass were caught, with some keepers taking baits. Solid bait choices included cut baits, jumbo live minnows, and live worms, particularly in areas downstream of check gates. Anglers who moved between gates to locate active fish reported limits. Early morning sessions with jerkbaits, swimbaits, and lipless crankbaits also yielded striped bass. Largemouth bass were found in eddies, near outtake grates, and around bridge pylons. Anglers had success using drop-shot rigs with Roboworms and Senkos. Catfish anglers reported good results using cut anchovies, dip bait, and chicken liver. The catfish bite was especially strong in the southern sections of the aqueduct.
