Fishing is in great shape on the Fall River heading into the week. ODFW finished up their most recent stocking in mid-to-late June, and there are good numbers of fish throughout all the major access points. It’s fly-only, barbless, and catch-and-release—perfect for anglers looking to slow down and get technical.

We’re in the heart of PMD and Caddis season. PMDs are showing up late morning through the afternoon, and again closer to dusk. Fish are responding best to emergers and cripples, so patterns like Film Critics, Sparkle Duns, and Cripple Duns are solid options. Caddis activity has been steady, with fish rising well in the shade and foam lines throughout the day.

Keep your presentations clean—long leaders and 5x or 6x tippet will help with the spooky fish in the clear water. If the surface bite slows, nymphing with small tungsten patterns like Jig leeches, Juju Baetis, Spanish Bullets, and Zebra Midges in #18–20 has been reliable. Focus on the deeper pools and tailouts, especially in the mid-day hours.

Streamer fishing can still move a bigger fish, especially early and late. Small olive or black Sculpzillas or soft hackle leeches swung through cut banks and structure are a good way to round out the day.
