Fall Chinook is back open on the Yaquina! Like its neighbors the fishery is off to a slower start this early in the season! We haven't had many reports of fish being caught in the basin yet, but it's sure to pick up in the coming weeks! Your best bet in the Yaquina is lower in th bay and like its neighbors early season trolling is often the best technique. There is few bank angling spots on the lower Yaquina but there is a few spots near the water tank!
The jetty tips on the Yaquina also provide harvest opportunities for ling cod and other rock fish species. They are tricky to navigate but keeping safety in mind the jetties offer a unique fishing opportunity!
Coastal Cutthroat will be distributed throughout the Yaquina basin and should be really pushing into the system this time of year. Yaquina Bay offers additional opportunity for crabbing, clamming, and near shore marine fishing off the jetties. Though it may be slower for freshwater fisheries this time of year! Anglers are reminded to check the regulations for use of bait and whether there are closed streams.
