The fall transition is here, and that means the fishing is changing.
The trout have moved off of the dam and have pushed a little further east. Shore anglers should try their luck between the west public launch ramp and Windy Point. Boulder Bay is also worth a shot. Powerbait fished off the bottom on 3 to 4 foot leaders has been the most consistent method in the mornings. In the evenings, when the fish rise to the surface to feast on insect hatches, nightcrawlers on bobbers, spoons, spinners, mini jigs, and flies will all get bit.
Boaters will find some trout in the mouths of Metcalf and Boulder Bays, but the stretch between the observatory and Windy Point is looking better. Trolling spoons or drifting bait is the best bet.
The bass have moved up to shallower water to feed up before the chill. Vegetation is the key to finding these ambush predators, so be sure to fish a weedless presentation. Texas rigged craw or creature baits are good choices, as are more finesse techniques like drop shots, ned rigs, and neko rigs. Running a topwater lure above the weed flats is another good way to draw them out of their hiding spots.
