Stocking: The lake was stocked with 1,000 pounds of catfish this week! The last catfish stocking will be the week of October 20th. So far, 7,500 pounds of catfish have been stocked this season.

What’s the Catch? Catfish are still the main attraction at Lake Jennings this week! The coves have been especially productive during the early morning and late evening hours when catfish move in closer to feed. Half Moon Cove and Sentry Point have seen good numbers on cut mackerel. Shore anglers near the Hermit Cove buoy line are hooking into fish 2–5 pounds. Boaters working the deeper channels are also finding success fishing just off the bottom.

Ranger Tips for Catfish:

  • Mackerel, chicken liver, and stink baits remain top producers. Try cutting baits into smaller chunks to release more scent.

  • Fish 2–3 feet off the bottom to keep your bait in the strike zone.

  • Catfish are most active at dawn, dusk, and after sunset. Bring a lantern and stay a little later for the best bite.

  • If the bite slows, add a little garlic scent to your bait to spark interest.

Conditions: The current water temperature is 80 degrees at the surface. The days are getting shorter with the sun rising at 6:43 a.m. and setting at 6:31 p.m. The next new moon is October 21st.
