Cooler weather patterns over the last two weeks have dropped water temps back into the 50s. Water clarity is improving. Aquatic weeds are beginning to die off, but may still impede shoreline fishing in some coves. With cooler water temps, trout fishing is about to take off and fish should be averaging 16″ to 22″. Try throwing small, flashy spinners or night crawlers combined with PowerBait fished off the bottom. Fly anglers are reporting luck with small chironomid patterns, leeches and streamers.
Bass fishing has significantly dropped off with the cooler weather. Finesse Ned rig worms and drop shot set ups are the way to go as the fish slow down. Soft plastics in green pumpkin, watermelon and other darker varieties are working well too. Special regulations: Beginning July 1, anglers may keep one black bass 15 inches or longer.
