The river is in great shape, gin clear below the lake through Ah-Di-Na, and a ton of October Caddis are coming off. Fish will key on the pupae moving around during the day, you will get more fish on the swing in tailouts. The best dry bite will happen in November when the hatch is on the wane. Otherwise, fish are on still on small black offerings in the mornings. The overall winner was a dark BP Weiss nymph. Small, black nymphs would be the go-to method with good clarity this time of year, #18-20 Zebra Midges, X-Mays, and Perdigons will work best. Good October Caddis pupa flies are the Mercer's Tungsten October Caddis Pupa and Skip's TB OCP. If you are Euro Nymphing, try the UV Sallies, your favorite Perdigon, and a Rubberlegs. For dry/dropper use the larger brown Chubby Chernobyl and a Zebra Midge, X-May or BP Weiss nymph dropper. Fishing tailouts with streamers like Barr's olive or black Slumpbuster or your favorite Sculpin will produce. The Nature Conservancy will be closed for the foreseeable future. To reserve a day with one of our expert guides to experience one of the most picturesque streams in the north state, call Bryan in Outfitters at 800-669-3474.
