Howard Prairie is 78 percent full. Bait fishing, casting from shore, and trolling are all good techniques. Larger trout can be caught on Powerbait fished about 2 ft off the bottom. Trolling a variety of lures with a worm can at depth can also be productive this time of year.
Largemouth bass fishing seems to have slowed down a bit. Dropping rubber baits near structures or other slow presentations might work well. Boat ramps may start closing in the coming weeks. For information on the concrete boat ramps call Jackson County Parks (541) 774-8183. Otherwise, the gravel ramp by the dam should be available.
Remember to remove all vegetation from gear, boots and boats before leaving Howard Prairie.
