Stocking: Trout Opener is this weekend! We will stock 2,500 pounds from Wright’s Rainbows in Idaho for the opener. The lake will be regularly stocked with Rainbow Trout from about mid November to April. In sum, we will stock 19,000 pounds of trout this season with some additional stockings from DFW. 

Get ready for trout season! Stock up on light tackle, mini jigs, and Powerbait at the bait shop. You’ll need both a valid California state fishing license and a Lake Jennings daily fishing permit. See below for a link to purchase your fishing license online. Daily limits for trout are 5 per person. Don’t forget to ring that limits bell on the dock on your way out! 

Please be aware that fishing from the boat dock and launch are strictly prohibited. 

Shoreline fishing is available from the campground Monday - Thursday where you will have access to Sentry Point, Sentry Cove, and Half Moon Cove. 

Trout Bite Picks Up in the Rain Don’t let a little rain keep you home—some of the best trout fishing at Lake Jennings happens when the clouds roll in! Cooler temperatures and fresh rainfall bring oxygen to the surface, making trout more active and ready to feed.

Trout will often move closer to shore, especially near coves and inlets where rain runoff washes in worms and insects. Try fishing from Hermit Cove, Eagle Cove, or the shoreline near the t-dock for your best chances.

Our rangers recommend half a nightcrawler on a treble hook especially after rain when they would naturally wash into the lake. In murky water, try chartreuse or rainbow PowerBait or pink and orange mini jigs. Fish early or late in the day for the best bite.

Conditions: The current water temperature is 71 degrees. The aerator has been turned off for the season. The district has been filling the lake at rate of nearly 30 million gallons a day. The days are getting shorter with the sun rising at 7:04 a.m. and setting at 5:59 p.m.
