Comins Lake is recovering from a long, dry summer.  Surface water temperatures are sitting at 47F.  Fall stocking is complete with 10,059 rainbow trout averaging 9.1 inches and 1,985 tiger trout stocked. Recent surveys have shown a lot of hatchery size trout in the north lake and numerous 16-to-18 inch rainbow trout in the south lake, some well exceeding 24 inches.  Brown trout in the 12-to-14-inch range were also observed throughout fall surveys. Anglers should try PowerBait, spinners, nightcrawlers, and wetflies behind a bubble.  Anglers should do well fishing from the shorelines of the north lake.  Anglers fishing from watercraft should do well fishing the bullrush edges of the south lake and near the creek inlet.  The extreme south end of the lake is still inundated with dense vegetation.

With colder water temperatures largemouth bass activity is very limited. Anglers looking to pursue northern pike should use flashy lures, RatL traps, and lures that resemble trout, bass, and bluegill should do well.

There is a limited bluegill fishery at Comins Lake, and anglers are encouraged to release bluegill to better establish their population.
