Cave Lake is entirely open water with a thin layer of ice over portions of the lake. All ice should be considered unsafe. There is good shoreline access from the day-use area of the State Park. Approx. 8,000 rainbow trout, averaging 9 inches were stocked this fall. Anglers should expect to catch hatchery stocked trout, however, there is a chance that you can catch a trout carried over from previous years.  Anglers will catch trout on nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners (Mepps and Panther Martins), and a variety of wetflies behind a bubble.
