Current Water Conditions
The Little Truckee is averaging about 50 CFS between Stampede and Boca. Flows are low and clear giving anglers some decent dry fly fishing to start the new year. Fishing is still possible in the two lower sections of the river, but access is limited in the upper portions of the river between Stampede and Boca, with snow levels increasing past the Boyington Mill Campground.
Water Temperatures
Holding steady in the low 40s°F.
Hatches
Some midge hatches throughout the day. Some sporadic blue winged olives if the weather is cloudy.
Effective Tactics
Mostly dry fly fishing. Use small dry flies in the size 20 to 22 range and fish the slower pools for best results. Setup your rod with 6x-7x tippet and a 12 foot leader for best presentation.
Catch Report
Some fish around 18-20 inches in size, with anglers catching 2 to 3 fish per day. Bite is a bit better in the middle of the day.
