After a rainy blitz that filled the lake to 100% full right after new years, conditions are settling down and we’re expecting trout activity to follow along. The new inflows had clouded the water considerably but even now visibility is already over 3ft- though windy days will temporarily stir up the shallow water. Today is glassy calm, sunny, cool and beautiful! Typically these conditions will lead to increased trout action along the shore, especially with scented baits or lures that have a vibrating action which fish sense acoustically, no matter the visibility.
Oscar Hodson (above) from Woodland caught these two big rainbows on Yellow and Orange PowerBait near the beach.
Kenneth Etchieson and Jeff Severson caught four big rainbow trout from the shore using swimbaits w/garlic scent.
Mike Ramos and his pal caught seven trout using PowerBait down by the beach.
Jed Z caught a trophy sized 7 3/4 pound rainbow trout casting spoons. Maddison Walker brought in a limit of trout by the dam using PowerBait. Luis Aldana caught three large trout including a Lightning Trout using rainbow PowerBait by the dam.
Parks & Elijah showed off five big rainbow trout caught trolling spoons at the south end of the lake near the dam. Emilio and Aiden caught a chunky rainbow trout near the dam with PowerBait.
With the weather being so nice I was surprised to see so many campsite available this weekend, even hookups along the lakefront like 204 to 222. I suppose lots of people are holding out for Presidents Day weekend but this week is also looking fantastic. If you want to do a last minute trip come join us!
Wherever you are don’t take it for granted, the weather can change on a dime, so get outside and enjoy some warm winter sunshine!
