Johnson Reservoir was nearly drained in 2025 so that repair work could be conducted on the dam outlet. No fish are scheduled to be stocked in Johnson Reservoir in 2025, due to the continuing repairs on the dam outlet. Any fish found in the reservoir have come over from Fish Lake (mostly suckers, carp and a few rainbow trout). Access opens up and the ice comes off around the same time, usually mid-to-late April. May and June typically provide the best fishing of the year for tiger muskies as the water is clear and the weeds grow in. Once the water starts to drop, the weeds die back, and the water gets murky.
