Water temperatures at Comins Lake are at 56 F. Rainbow trout in the 16-to-18-inch range are being caught. Comins Lake was stocked this week with 5,292 rainbow trout averaging 9.5 inches and 7,061 brown trout averaging 9.3 inches. Trout can be caught on a variety of gear, including nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners (Mepps, Blue Fox, and Panther Martins), as well as wet flies behind a bubble.
Expect largemouth bass activity to be slow until waters climb into the 60s. Although still not quite active, NDOW staff have seen large numbers of 12-to-13-inch largemouth bass. As temperatures continue to warm up, anglers will have nice bass to look forward to.
Northern pike are post-spawn and anglers looking to pursue pike should use flashy lures, RatL traps, and lures that resemble trout, bass, and bluegill that can be cast or trolled.
There is a limited bluegill fishery at Comins Lake, and anglers are encouraged to release bluegill to better establish their population.
