Aqueduct anglers worked hard for bites

Aqueduct anglers worked hard for bites, as green slime made many techniques difficult. Some anglers found success by suspending their baits higher in the water column with bait rigs, while others “walked the dog” with sardines to keep slime off their lines. Flylined live worms also proved effective for fooling striped bass. Bottom-contact lures required constant cleaning due to the green slime clinging to the sides of the aqueduct. Topwater walking baits and poppers produced both striped bass and largemouth bass in areas with cleaner water. Largemouth bass also took tiny flukes rigged on the “Donkey Rig” when allowed to fall through slower-moving water. The drop-shot technique remained effective when paired with a longer leader. Catfish anglers found the most success using bait rigs that kept their offerings suspended off the bottom.
