Donner Lake continues to offer solid summer fishing opportunities, with the lake remaining full and water temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. Shore anglers are finding consistent success for rainbow trout along the west end of the lake using PowerBait, worms, and a variety of spinners. Kokanee fishing has also continued to improve, with fish feeding aggressively despite still being on the smaller side. Anglers targeting kokanee should focus around China Cove, trolling flashers or hoochies in 40 to 60 feet of water. As summer recreation picks up, early mornings and evenings remain the best times to fish, providing cooler conditions, more active fish, and less boat traffic.
