"31 eager anglers enjoyed major league yellowtail fishing at the South End of Cedros Island on the Paco Wayley Charter," remarked Red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates at H&M Landing June 22.
Chartermaster Wayley had the largest fish on the four-day trip, and won the jackpot for his 50-pound white seabass. He said he fished a sardine on a 5/0 ringed Gorilla hook tied to 60-pound Izorline. He beat the fish in 15 minutes, using his Accurate 30 reel and a Calstar 660 rod.
Carlos Alonzo of Norwalk and Aki Higashi of Sacramento pulled up a matching pair of halibut to take second and third places. Carlos got a 34.3-pounder, and Aki took a 34.1-pound flattie.
Red Rooster III left on a seven-day Seeker charter the same afternoon, with John Grabowski doing the skipper's chores.
