General Information: Fair to Good. Flows are low throughout the system, and the entire river is in good shape for fishing. There has been a variety of different hatches: Several species of Mayflies, and some decent caddis hatches in the evening, and golden stoneflies buzzing around as well. We're seeing more big fish so far this year than we have since the first year the river re-opened after the Cantara Spill, especially in the lower stretches of the river.
Fishing Conditions & Hatches: This is the time of year that produces best early and late in the day.The old standards are always a good choice so break out one of those nymphs you have had success with in the past and give it another chance for glory. As the sunsets it will be time to switch to the caddis and pale evening duns to end the day with some dry fly action.
Flies:
?Ģ GB Pheasant Tail Nymphs #16-18;
?Ģ Mercers Micro May #16-18;
?Ģ Red Copper John #16;
?Ģ Black Zebra Midge #18;
?Ģ Parachute Adams #14-16.
?Ģ Gidget #18, brown or olive
?Ģ Prince #14-16* Dark Lord #14-16
?Ģ Mercer's Micro-Mayfly nymph #16
?Ģ Copper Johns #14-18
?Ģ Flashback PT #16
?Ģ Z-Wing grn. #16
?Ģ Fox's Poopah #16
?Ģ Para Adams #16
?Ģ Zebra Midges #18
?Ģ Tilt wing dun #18
?Ģ Hare's Ears #12 to #16
?Ģ Spotlight Caddis
The Fly Shop's Tips: ??When nymphing on the Upper Sac, always use more weight than you think you need to get the flies down to the fish. If you're not ticking the bottom from time to time (yes, this means losing a few flies), you're probably not getting down to where the fish are feeding.
