Current River Conditions:
Water conditions have been perfect. Flows out of Lewiston Dam remain at 300 CFS. Fishing has been great for some anglers, tough for others. Steelhead are not stationary fish. They keep moving. Sometimes the fish are in one run today and another mile or two upstream tomorrow.
Snowy icy road conditions mean your journey on HWY 299 will be a careful, slow one. Expect dryer weather conditions this week. Currently, some boat ramps are buried in snow, but it's possible to launch as long as you have snow tires, 4-wheel drive and some determination.
You can check HWY 299 road conditions, west of Redding, CA by clicking here. Expect variable travel conditions. Water conditions on the upper Trinity should remain excellent through the week! Tougher wading conditions will be found below Junction City. Keep in mind November flows below Junction City are 350CFS. Right now, flows are about 1,000 CFS. Lot's of water!
Hot Flies:
The Solitude Golden Stone in #8, #6 Black Rubber Legs and #14 Poxyback Hares Ear.
The Fly Shop's ? Tips:
A variety of techniques, using your 8-9wt rod for Salmon, or a more adaptable 5-6 wt fly rod for small steelhead and aggressive browns will tie you into fish. Suspending nymphs under an indicator, stripping buggers and leeches, swinging muddlers or PT nymphs will produce hook-ups! Even dry flies should be in the plan. Bring a parachute Adams! Hey! The King Salmon will eat nymphs suspended under indicators. What a blast!
