A three-day trip aboard Red Rooster III ended July 15, after skipper Andy Cates docked the rig at H&N Landing.

Cates said fishing was tough, that there seemed to be plenty of albies around, but they weren't much willing to bite.

Jeff David of San Clemente won first place for a 24.7-pound longfin. He said he got it with a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad 91450 hook on 30-pound P-Line. He used a Penn 4/0 reel and a six and a half-foot Ugly Stick rod.

Richard Dick of Tempe, AZ found a 23.6-pound albacore for second place. Stacy Rubick of Mission Viejo was third, for a 22.7-pounder. Kyle Reynaud of San Dimas stood in with the winners with his 28.3-pound albacore, which won the Red Rooster III jacket prize for the best fish caught trolling.
