Current River Conditions: Lot's of complaints about moss and how it fouls your flies and leader within seconds of presenting the fly. Great fishing is elusive on this stream through the dog days of summer. You might find a few rainbows chowing on Golden Stone nymphs and adults, maybe an adult steelhead but don't plan on it. Lower in the river near Klamath Glen, you could swing for springers with you spey rod but the floating moss is an issue. Expect some solitude on the Klamath during the summer months.
River conditions are great along the entire stretch. Good time to go on a raft trip or get the kayak out on the river. Go enjoy!
The Fly Shop's?? Tips: Mid summer is a tough time on the Klamath, especially this year with the thick algae blooms happening as a result of drought conditions. It's best to wait until October and water temperatures that eliminate the algae for the winter.
Fly rods from 6 wt to 7 wt are perfect in lengths of 9' to 9.5'. Switch rods are popular and make casting very easy. Spey rods fit in well on the Klamath river.
