Bill Kuehl chartermastered the American Angler four-day trip for Luc Ofield's pro shop, Angler's Choice. He said almost all the yellowtail caught on the trip were bait fish. Sam Patella was skipper, and docked the rig at Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 11.

Ed Powers of Encinitas won first place for a 44.6-pound yellow. He said he caught it with a sardine on a 3/0 Super Mutu hook. He used 25-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and 65-pound Power Pro Spectra backing on an Avet LX 6-3 reel and a Shimano eight-foot rod.

"I got him in about 15 minutes," said Powers. "I had a great trip."

Mark Yasuda of San Jose was second, for a 43.6-pound yellowtail, and Nildo Massucco of Oakland won third place for a 40.6-pound yellow.
