f you missed the Deschutes Salmonfly??bonanza this is your second chance at throwing size 4 to 8 bugs on top. The Metolius has both Goldens and Salmonflies in ??July, August, and early September.?? Stonefly?? fishing has been good the past two weeks, with most action from Allingham upstream. It's tough to beat a Norm Wood. This pattern seems to work well in Oregon, but less effective in other states for some reason.

PMD's will be your other important dry fly in August. It's important to have a good selection of patterns as Metolius trout are very finicky.?? PMD's are hatching between 1:30 ~ 4:30 pm. The spinner fall will start after 6:00 pm. Should the weather change with rain and clouds, you are back using BWO Parachute's in size 20-22 and 7X tippet.

Midges can be important as well. Use Griffith Gnats size 18-20 on top, and V-Rib Midge in black size 18 subsurface.

The Bull Trout are present year around, although August can be on the slow side. In September however the fish will start to migrate from the lake, and "Bull" fishing picks up. We like Cone Head Leeches in white and silver, size 2-6.

Note: Bring a camera, as this is one of the prettiest trout spots you will encounter anywhere.
