On Jan. 5, the first pond was mostly covered in ice. There was open water near the inlet, and the edges were very soft, which could make it very difficult to access the ice. We recommend staying off any ice at the first pond. On Jan. 5, the other three ponds were covered in three inches of ice. The edges appeared stable, but we recommend avoiding the inlets and outlets of each pond. Also, daytime temperatures have been heating up, which can melt the ice very quickly. Please use extreme caution and common sense when venturing out. Anglers report good fishing in the third pond. One angler caught four rainbows in only three minutes, using a size 12 Ratfinkee (tipped with small cocktail shrimp) and fishing just off the bottom. The best method for catching fish is to mostly hold your pole still and then jig it occasionally. Another angler also had success with fluorescent orange PowerEggs fished just off the bottom.
