"Pretty tough fishing," remarked Bill Poole at Fisherman's Landing early September 12. "He had just finished a five-day trip with Excel skipper Mike Ramirez. "We had some yellowtail fishing at Cedros, but the conditions kept changing. The wind's got everything messed up."

Excel's 34 anglers had a decent time there, and made a fair catch of yellowtail to about 30 pounds. They got a couple of albacore each before heading down that way, and a handful of dorado en route, along with three halibut.

Bob Buckland of Simi Valley won first place for a 33.2-pound albacore. He said he got that one with a sardine on a 4/0 Flyliner hook, 30-pound P-Line, an Avet SX-2 reel and a Calstar 765 L rod.

Trevor Kredell of Seal Beach was second for a 32.4-pound albie, and George Nua won third place for a 31.8-pound albacore.
