The action at Shaver Lake remains on the slower side. A limit or two is quite possible, but it is hit or miss with some trollers coming up short a fish or two. We have been connecting with around a couple limits a day. I have fished every day for about a month and have seen it go from 3 to 4 limits down to a couple limits. I am still using orange or pink Apex lures tipped with corn behind a dodger at 60 to 62 feet deep on the down riggers, near the island, Black Rock and Eagle point areas. The 4th of July weekend was especially tough as the boat traffic was maxed out due to Shaver Lake being one of the few good water level lakes in the central region. Couple that with an excellent fireworks show over the lake on Saturday night and fishermen were not the top reason to be on the lake. Fast boats were the main draw of the weekend.

Going into the weekend many regular fishermen were scoring a few limits.

Bank fishermen have had some success due to DF&W's regular planting of catchable trout. We are catching more mixed fish while on charters due to the increased plant. My side poles have had about the same success as the down riggers after 8 am. But it is an early bite out there. We have been averaging a limit by 630 to 730 am and then after 8 am it slows down to one here and one there. Bank anglers who can tolerate the bright sun on the shore are using Power bait or crawlers with best success.
