TROUT SEASON IS HERE . . . The 29th annual trout derby took place this Veteran's Day weekend, November 9-12. The lake stocked another 2400 lbs. on November 8, with some fish averaging 5-7 lbs. with bigger trout reported being stocked (up to 12-14 lbs.) for the derby. The trout derby went very well with large crowds and big fish being caught over the weekend. The unofficial results for the grand prize and each category as follows: Grand prize goes to Connor Rasmussen of Escondido with a whopper 10.22 lbs. trout caught on a night crawler in the Boat Dock Cove area (see photo). The adult division goes to Wes Hayden of Fallbrook with a 7.02 lbs. trout caught in Trout Cove on a small mini jig. The senior division went to Wayne Gifford with a 1.98 lbs. trout caught on power bait in the Whisker Bay Cove. The Youth division goes to Brad Pifer of La Mesa with a 5.76 lbs. trout caught on an orange power worm next to Trout Cove Pier #3. More official results will follow this report.

Bass action was slow this week. Our local anglers reported catching some smaller bass in the 1 to 2-pound range on the small 3 to 4-inch plastics worms and even on Kastmaster lures. The bass are feeding on the smaller size bait fish. Most of the action has been in the Boat Dock Cove areas and next to Pier #1 and in Trout Cove.

The catfish bite improved during the derby with several anglers reporting in with some decent action on the cats on power bait and night crawlers.
