Oowah Lake - Moab , UT

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout
Oowah Lake, located in the La Sal Mountains near Moab, is a popular high-country lake for rainbow and tiger trout. Regularly stocked rainbows average 10–14 inches and readily bite on PowerBait, worms, spinners, and small nymph patterns. Early and late in the day are the best times for action.

Tiger trout are more elusive but offer a rewarding challenge. Try streamers or jigs worked slowly along drop-offs.

The lake has excellent shoreline access, plus a small ramp for kayaks and float tubes. The nearby Oowah Campground provides forested campsites. Be aware that road conditions can be rough, especially during snowmelt or storms, so high-clearance vehicles are recommended.

Fishing at Oowah Lake is regulated under Utah’s statewide trout rules, with a four-trout daily limit. Always check the Utah Fishing Guidebook for seasonal updates or road closures.

With its cooler mountain climate and scenic setting, Oowah is a great escape for anglers looking to catch trout close to Moab.
