Fish Species: | Rainbow Trout, Tiger Trout |
Willow Lake near Brighton offers remote alpine fishing for wild brook trout in a beautiful mountain setting. Accessible only by a 1.5-mile hike, this lake provides solitude and clean water at over 8,700 feet elevation.
Brook trout are small but plentiful, often 8–12 inches, and readily hit dry flies like Elk Hair Caddis or Adams in the evening. Nymphs and small spinners also produce, especially near the inlet.
Boats aren’t allowed, but shore casting and light wading are effective. No facilities are present, so anglers should be self-sufficient and follow Leave No Trace principles.
Willow Lake is best visited from late spring to early fall, as snow can linger into summer. It’s a great destination for those looking for a scenic hike, mountain trout fishing, and a peaceful outdoor escape just a short drive from Salt Lake City.
