Bicknell Bottoms WMA - Wayne County, UT

River Information

Surface Area:640 acres
Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout
Bicknell Bottoms Wildlife Management Area in Wayne County offers a unique fly fishing experience on spring-fed creeks meandering through over 600 acres of wetlands. Located near the town of Bicknell, this area supports wild brown and rainbow trout in a natural, brush-lined environment.

Trout in the 8–14 inch range are common, with larger browns occasionally found in deeper runs or undercut banks. Clear, cold water supports healthy insect life, making dry flies, nymphs, and terrestrials highly effective. Dry-dropper rigs, ants, beetles, and small mayfly patterns produce well during the summer months.

Access requires hiking through dense vegetation and marshy terrain. Wading is possible, but conditions vary seasonally—mosquito repellent is highly recommended in warmer months. There are no developed facilities or trails, and anglers should come prepared for a backcountry experience.

Fishing pressure is light, offering solitude for experienced anglers seeking a technical and rewarding challenge. The area is also rich in wildlife, making it a great destination for nature enthusiasts.

Bicknell Bottoms is managed under general Utah fishing regulations with a four-trout daily limit. Anglers should consider practicing catch-and-release to protect this sensitive and ecologically rich fishery.
