Blacksmith Fork River - Hyrum , UT

River Information

Fish Species: Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Mountain Whitefish
Blacksmith Fork River, located southeast of Hyrum, is a scenic small stream offering quality trout fishing year-round. Stocked rainbows and wild brown trout are the main attractions, with fish averaging 10–14 inches.

Highway 101 provides easy access along most of the river’s course through Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Popular spots include Left Hand Fork and near Hardware Ranch. The stream is ideal for fly fishing, with dry flies like caddis and mayflies producing during hatches. Nymphs and small streamers are effective in deeper water or cooler weather.

Spin fishing is allowed and productive with small spinners or jigs. Light line and stealth are key due to the river’s clarity and tight structure.

Flows remain stable through most of the year, making it a solid option during spring runoff when other rivers are unfishable.

Blacksmith Fork’s intimate feel, consistent flows, and easy access make it one of the best small-stream fisheries in northern Utah. Check regulations for current limits and seasonal changes before heading out.
