Lower Green River - UT

River Information

Fish Species: Channel Catfish, Smallmouth Bass, Banded Sunfish
The Lower Green River near the town of Green River, UT, offers a warmwater fishery dominated by catfish, carp, and bass. It flows through remote desert terrain before reaching Lake Powell, providing a scenic and underutilized fishing experience.

Channel catfish are the main target, especially in summer. They bite best on cut bait or stinkbait fished near deeper holes, eddies, and rocky ledges. Fish over 20 inches are common.

Common carp are abundant and provide exciting action for both bait and fly anglers. Sight-fishing with nymphs or corn can yield big, strong carp in the shallows.

Smallmouth bass and sunfish round out the action, particularly near submerged structure and slow-moving currents. They strike small plastics and cranks.

Access is available via BLM sites and road crossings. Float trips are an option for more adventurous anglers. Always check conditions—flows can rise quickly and algae can impact water quality.

The Lower Green delivers a diverse desert river experience for those looking beyond traditional trout waters.
