Castaic Lake fell to 88% of its storage capacity, and water temperatures held around 80 degrees. Bass anglers reported plenty of one-to-three-pound fish taking topwater lures, finesse baits, and small jerkbaits, with most focusing on surface action until about 10 a.m. Poppers, walking baits, and small Flukes proved most effective, with patience and precise casts into the surface activity being the key. Midday, drop shots, Carolina rigs, and Ned rigs produced bass in 15 to 25 feet of water along bluff walls and points, while small jerkbaits drew bites in the mudlines once the wind picked up. Striped bass remained elusive, surfacing sporadically and feeding in short windows, making it best to target bass while keeping topwater walking baits ready for a nearby boil. Catfish ate dip bait and chicken liver on Carolina rigs.
