Website
The T is fishing as well as it has in the past five years this season, and all the reports we are receiving from guides and our customers are good. The river is in pretty good shape all the way down to Evans Bar for sure. There have been some highway closures just downstream of Junction City, but those are lifted now. Of course, the National Forest is still closed below Pigeon Point, but there is plenty of good spots to fish from there all the way up to Lewiston. Golden Stones are a solid choice of fly right now. Keep your eyes peeled for any hatches, yes they can happen this time of year, and change up accordingly. Psycho Princes, Pheasant Tails and all of the Euronymph jobbers are working too. Some people are picking fish up on egg patterns. Remember to check the forecast and keep some chains in your vehicle when you head out. Swinging can be done with good results, thrown on a sink tip and your favorite large fly like a Hartwick Hoser in purple or black. A Burnt Chicken will get it done as well. Slow your presentation down with a big mend, make those steps down and get ready for that grab.

Access To the Trinity River
The Trinity has many publicly accessible areas with good wading opportunities during the steelhead season. Stop by the shop and we'd be happy to point you in the right direction.
Steelhead Fishing Can be Frustrating
These anadromous rainbow trout are known as the 'Fish of a Thousand Casts.' For good reason! The learning curve can be quite steep learning when and where to go, and what type of water to target. Our Professional Guide Staff has decades of experience guiding the Trinity River for steelhead. A day spent with one of our guides will get you up to speed much more quickly.
Recommended Equipment & Setups
Early Summer Run Steelhead on the Trinity River will take swung flies readily. Spey rods are becoming an increasingly popular method to swing flies. The Fly Shop's Signature Spey Rods are an economical way to get into a great Spey rig. Add a Ross Cimmaron II Fly Reel and a Scandi shooting head, a leader, tippet and fly and you'll be in business.
