The dry fly bite on the LT picked back up this week with better reports on PMD hatches throughout the day as well as an increase in activity from BWO’s and the ever-present midge. When hatches aren’t present, all methods of nymphing can be effective. A dry-dropper is a great way to present nymphs to fish holding in tailouts or flat water at the end of a run. Indicators are great for their ability to fish further away, to be able to adjust depth and weight to match the run you’re fishing, and when fishing unweighted or small flies. Euro nymphing is effective when fishing rifles, fast transitions in depth, and for quick strike detection. The beauty of the Little Truckee is it’s ability to allow most methods of fishing to be effective, except maybe streamer fishing! The main bugs out here seldom change, but the fishes willingness to take specific patterns does, and having a variety of imitations to match any one hacth can pay off when these fish have seen enough of any one fly. Be sure to have all life stages of each hatch as well (I.E. nymphs, emerger nymphs and dries, soft hackles, duns, and spinners), as they can key in on all stages.
