Fishing forecast (December through May): Ice fishing can provide great fishing for trout. Utah chub are the most abundant prey for the other fish in the reservoir. Follow the chubs to find big fish. Ice typically forms on the reservoir around the end of November. Anglers should use extreme caution and be aware of best practices for ice safety

Tiger trout: Tiger trout will cruise the shallow shoreline feeding on Utah chub. Try using dead Utah chub as bait to catch fish during this timeframe. Cut off a 1-by-1-inch piece of chub meat and thread it on a 1/8-ounce or 1/4-ounce jig head. Keep your jig close to the bottom as you retrieve/reel, because most fish will hug the bottom. Other good lures to try will be silver/white or black/white spoons.

Cutthroat trout: Target cutthroat with similar tactics as tiger trout. Use tube jigs tipped with chub meat and jigging spoons.

Rainbow trout: This reservoir usually gets stocked in October for the last time for the year. Good fishing for rainbows is typical for this time of year. Use standard trout-fishing tactics from shore like worm and marshmallow/salmon egg, PowerBait, ice flies and spoons.

Tiger muskie: Ice fishing for tiger muskie can be very difficult. Anglers occasionally catch one while targeting trout.

Wiper: Ice fishing for wiper can be very difficult. Anglers occasionally catch one while targeting trout.
