Seaforth manager John Yamate remarked April 18 that some of his boats have been picking up occasional yellowtail of 12 to 18 pounds and bonito of five to 10 pounds on day trips to the Coronados Islands.
"Most of these fish have come to the San Diego and the Pacific Voyager," said Yamate, who is presently overseeing the construction of new facilities at the landing. Work should be done around the first of June, he said.
The yellows have been hitting both bait and jigs in even numbers. The bonito don't care; they'll bite anything."
Ed Zieralski reported the same day that Point Loma Sportfishing's Mission Belle with skipper Steve Peterson found some success surface fishing barracuda and bonito (five-fish limits on those) at The Rockpile, some five miles below South Island.
