The Striped bass and salmon fishing in the Delta Region is improving due to the cooling trend which has caused the surface water temperatures to drop to the mid-sixties.  Once again, the hot spot for striped bass continue to the west Bank of the Sacramento River from Collinsville upstream to into the Rio Vista area.  Trollers are working water depths ranging from 12 to 15 feet while pulling Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows with a white worm trailer.  Most of the fish range from 5 to 8 pounds along with occasional fish in the double-digit range.  On a good day most are hooking and releasing up to 20 fish per day.

The inland salmon fishing has improved due to the cooling water temperatures on the Sacramento River.  Trollers have been hooking and landing salmon in the 15 to 20-pound class near the J-Mack Ferry and along the Sacramento River near Walnut Grove.  Shoreline anglers tossing Fly “C” spinners and boaters dragging Bra’s Cut Plugs are taking fish off the Freeport Bridge. Some of the better salmon fishing is taking place further upstream into the American River and Feather River.  The Mont of October will also provide some good salmon in the Mokelumne River as well for those jigging spoons in the narrows.  For those who enjo fishing the Delta at anchor while tossing your favorite bait are catching stripers in the San Joaquin River east of the Antioch Bridge.  The best bait by far is fresh threadfin shad provided by most of the local bait shops in your area.
