Castaic Lake neared full capacity last week, with water levels reaching approximately 90% of the lake’s storage volume. Water temperatures climbed into the mid to upper 60s, creating ideal conditions for bass fishing. Anglers reported another excellent week on the water, with the lagoon also producing solid numbers of bass. Drop shot rigs, Carolina rigs, and Senko-style baits performed well, while windy days pushed baitfish into mud lines where squarebills and jerkbaits were effective. Striped bass were more active, chasing jerkbaits, spoons, and white swimbaits. Shad schools moved closer to the shoreline, sparking some boil activity throughout the day. Catfish were caught near the west ramp on cut sardines and dip bait.
