Fishing remains solid on the Metolius as we move into the final stretch of June. Green Drakes are still the star of the show, especially in the afternoons from around 3 to 6 PM, with spinner falls lingering into the evening. PMDs and Caddis are coming off consistently as well, and Rusty Spinners are a good bet near dusk. Golden Stones, Yellow Sallies, and Little Olive Stones continue to show throughout the day and are a great match for dry-dropper setups.
Nymphing has been productive with Euro rigs and traditional indicators alike. Patterns like Jigged Frenchies, Purple Perdigons, Berry’s PCP, and Zebra Midges are getting plenty of attention, especially in the deeper slots and seams. The bull trout bite is still there for those willing to put in the time—small streamers and weighted nymphs fished through canyon water are your best shot.
Weather this weekend looks ideal for fishing. Daytime highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s with cool overnight lows in the 40s should help keep the hatches active. Light afternoon winds may slow surface activity in the open, but sheltered runs and shaded stretches should still offer solid dry fly opportunities, especially in the late afternoon and evening.
Expect a mix of redband trout, whitefish, and the occasional bull trout. The fly-fishing-only stretch above Bridge 99 continues to produce, and the entire river remains catch-and-release with artificial flies and lures only. Now’s the time to be on the Met—you’ve got bugs, stable conditions, and ideal weather lining up all at once.
