Current Water Conditions

The Truckee is fishing excellent right now, with flows steady at 296 CFS out of Tahoe City, 320 CFS through town, and 503 CFS at Farad. The water is clear, cold, and running strong. The canyon stretch is the place to be, especially early in the day before the sun gets high. Weekday mornings are quiet with little angling pressure.                                         

Water Temperatures

Starting in the high 50s°F to low 60s°F at dawn and reaching mid-60s°F by afternoon. Glenshire stretch hovers around 62–63°F mid afternoon, with the canyon staying a touch cooler.

Hatches

PMDs, Tricos, and a few caddis are fluttering toward evening, but most trout are focused on subsurface meals in faster water.

Effective Tactics

Tightline nymphing riffles and seams is on fire. Dry-dropper rigs with long leaders are turning heads in mixed currents. Streamers are moving meat-eating browns in the canyon.

Catch Report

Rainbows and browns in the 12–16" class are steady from Glenshire to Hirschdale. Bigger browns near 18–19" are sitting deep in canyon pools. Early and late remain the hot windows.
