Current Water Conditions
The Little Truckee continues to run low and clear at 52 CFS between Stampede and Boca. A small bump from recent rain helped, but conditions remain technical. Long, stealthy presentations are crucial.
Water Temperatures
Holding steady at 54°F. With fall weather, expect stable and ideal temps for the next few weeks.
Hatches
Blue-winged olives, sallies, and pale morning duns are the primary hatches, with small patterns (#18–22) being essential.
Effective Tactics
Use 12–14 ft leaders with 6x–7x tippet for delicate drifts. Match the hatch in slicks or tailouts, switch to hopper-droppers in late morning, and tightline nymph deeper when fish slide down.
Catch Report
Strong rainbows and browns in the 14–18 inch range are common, with a few bigger browns pushing 24 inches for those catching the dry-fly windows around dawn and dusk. The larger fish tend to hold near the mouth of the Little Truckee.
